Hydroxypropyl starch ether (HPS) is an ionic starch ether produced from natural polymeric material—starch—through a series of chemical and physical reactions under alkaline conditions. Hydroxypropyl starch ether is an odorless, irregular flake or white powder that dissolves in cold water to form a transparent or translucent viscous liquid.
It exhibits properties such as thickening, binding, dispersing, emulsifying, suspending, adsorbing, surface activity, and moisture retention.
