TENESSY™ Hydroksietyyli-metyyli Selluloosa (HEMC) is a high-performance cellulose ether designed to enhance the consistency, adhesion, and water retention of tile adhesives. It easily dissolves in cold water to form a smooth, thick solution with stable viscosity and excellent flowability.
In tile adhesive formulations, HEMC acts as a key additive that improves the workability, bonding strength, and open time of cement-based systems. Compared to conventional Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC), TENESSY™ HEMC provides superior water retention, viscosity stability, and anti-mold performance, making it particularly suitable for applications in hot and humid environments.
How Does HEMC Work in Tile Adhesives
When added to tile adhesives, HEMC creates a protective colloid film around cement particles, effectively controlling the release of water during hydration. This mechanism ensures that the adhesive maintains proper moisture balance, allowing for better cement hydration and stronger bonding between tile and substrate.
At the same time, HEMC increases the viscosity and cohesiveness of the mortar, preventing tile slippage on vertical surfaces. It also extends the open time—meaning workers have more time to adjust and align tiles without losing adhesion—leading to greater efficiency and reduced waste on construction sites.
